FAQ’s about Web Design
Here are the answers to a few commonly asked questions about website design.
If what you’re looking for isn’t here just ask us.
How much does a website cost?
This is a difficult question to answer without doing some digging to find out more about what your business needs and how your website can help you meet your goals. Like most things, you get what you pay for. Our websites start at around $4,000 at the basic end and range upwards depending on what’s required. A good website will pay for itself very quickly.
Will my website work on mobiles and tablets?
It most certainly will. Google actually show preference towards websites that are flexible to various screen sizes, so we don’t build websites that fail to tick this box.
Where do I get the content from for my new website?
Well, if you have an existing site, an analysis of that is a great place to start. If you’re not much of a writer (and keep in mind that writing for the web is a bit of an art), then we can work with professional copywriters to ensure your website content is engaging for your visitors and assists with your page ranking in search results.
Can I update the website myself?
Yes you can. When we start your project we’ll discuss your business needs. If you want access to some or all of the pages on your website, then that’s what you’ll have. If you don’t want to update the site yourself, you can take advantage of ‘flexi-time’ with one of our website maintenance plans.
How will I know how to update it?
Once your website is complete, we’ll show you how to log in and make changes to the content.
How long does it take to build my website?
It depends how complex your site is going to be. A standard business website will take around 4 weeks to research, design, build and test.
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation is a methodology of strategies and techniques used to increase the number of visitors to your website via your ranking in search results pages. This traffic is often referred to as ‘organic’.
Do you outsource my project overseas?
No, your site will be designed and built in Australia. We’re a local business here to support local businesses!
Why do you use WordPress?
WordPress is an open source content management system that currently powers around 25% of all websites, that’s 1 in every 4 of the sites you visit. Apart from being extremely popular, WordPress allows us to develop flexible and customisable websites to high standards and follows best practices in web development. That said, if for some reason we don’t believe it’s right for your project, then we’ll either use an alternative platform or refer you to the right people.
How long will it take to appear at the top of Google?
The time it takes for your website to appear on page 1 of Google depends on several of factors, including the search phrase people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also available for those search phrases. No-one can tell you how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages, but there are things we can do to improve your chances. Building your website on WordPress is a great start, given that WordPress has some Search Engine Optimisation fundamentals built-in. Creating unique and compelling content for your website (on a regular basis) is also critical to increase your sites visibility. Building your website and then forgetting about it is most definitely the best way to drift into obscurity.
We would love to talk to you about your search engine strategy (if we haven’t already!)
How will I know if anyone is visiting my website?
We install Google Analytics software on your new website. When you log into site you’ll be able to view your site stats, including number of visits, page views and the amount of time people are looking around your website. If you’re interested, you can log into your Google Analytics account directly and dig deeper into your site metrics.
What do I do if something goes wrong with my website or I can’t work out how to do something?
Provided you subscribe to one of our WordPress Maintenance & Security Plans , we’ll be here to help. We will determine whether the problem is something that your hosting company needs to deal with or if it’s something that is covered by your plan. We’ll provide training (and video tutorials in some cases) to help you learn how to use your website once it’s launched.
